Cayman Islands Monetary Authority
The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority is responsible for administering the
issue of Cayman Islands Currency. The first Cayman Islands currency was
issued in 1971.
All currency issued is fully backed by United States dollar deposits. The
parity of CI$ 1.00 = US$ 1.20 is controlled by section 18 of the Monetary
Authority Law and is fixed.
Circulating Banknotes and Coins
There are 100 cents to the Cayman Islands dollar. Denominations of notes
in circulation are $100, $50, $40, $25, $10, $5 and $1. Circulating coins
are issued in denominations of 25c, 10c, 5c, and 1c.
